Herron Makes 2nd Amendment Pledge

Congressional Candidate Claims Strongest Record on Guns

gun-cabinetUNION CITY, Tenn. — Roy Herron pledged Friday to defend 2nd Amendment rights and to fight efforts by the federal government to infringe on the right to keep and bear arms.

Citing his support of gun-rights legislation and his family’s hunting heritage, Herron said he has the strongest, most responsible record on guns among the candidates running for Congress in Tennessee’s 8th District.

“As a Life Member of the National Rifle Association and sportsman, I recognize the importance of protecting individual gun rights, and I pledge to defend the 2nd Amendment,” said Herron to members of the Tennessee Firearms Association during a campaign stop in Obion County. “I grew up hunting with my father and brothers, and I’ve continued this Tennessee tradition with my three sons.”

As a state legislator, Herron has received multiple endorsements from the NRA and an A+ rating for his efforts to protect the 2nd Amendment and enact sensible gun legislation.

This year, Herron, a small-town attorney, businessman and former minister, co-sponsored the Hunting and Fishing Constitutional Amendment that, if ratified by voters in November, would guarantee the right to hunt and fish for all future generations.

"Some would stop us from hunting and fishing,” Herron said. “This constitutional amendment would protect these sporting traditions for our children and grandchildren.”

Herron has sponsored various bills that expanded gun rights for law-abiding firearm owners while cracking down on criminals and reducing juvenile violence.

“I've got a gun cabinet full of guns. Like most of you, I am pro-gun and anti-violence,” Herron said. “We need to keep firearms out of the hands of felons, make parents responsible for their kids’ gun use, and allow permitted adults to carry and use a gun in self-defense.”

Herron and all three of his sons hold Tennessee Lifetime Sportsman Licenses, which Herron purchased so his sons also can hunt and fish for life.

Additionally, Herron has long been a member of Ducks Unlimited and the Tennessee Outdoor Writers Association.

Herron, the owner of more than a dozen guns, has written about his family's tradition of hunting in his book, Things Held Dear: Soul Stories for My Sons in a chapter called "Guns and Guys.”

Small-town attorney, businessman and former minister, Roy Herron is running for Congress to bring jobs to Tennessee and restore fiscal responsibility to Washington. As a state legislator, Herron has fought predatory lenders, worked to make healthcare more affordable and passed laws that are tough on criminals while protecting victims. Herron has written three books, including Tennessee Political Humor and God and Politics: How Can a Christian Be in Politics? He lives in Dresden with his wife of 22 years, Nancy, and their three sons.
