Herron an advocate for sportsmen, represents Tennessee values
DRESDEN, Tenn. — The National Rifle Association, the preeminent 2nd Amendment group in America, has endorsed Roy Herron for Congress in Tennessee’s 8th District.
Herron, a Life Member of the NRA and outdoor enthusiast, is the only candidate in the Congressional race endorsed by the NRA.
“I am honored to have the endorsement of this group that fights as passionately as I do for the hunting and shooting rights of Tennesseans,” said Herron, a part-time citizen legislator and former minister. “I grew up hunting with my father and brothers and have continued the family tradition of hunting with my sons. I will vigorously defend the 2nd Amendment rights of every American.”
In the Tennessee General Assembly, Herron was a sponsor of the Hunting and Fishing Constitutional Amendment that, if ratified by voters November 2, will guarantee the right to hunt and fish for all future generations. Herron was the prime sponsor of Tennessee’s Self-Defense Act, which permits responsible citizens to carry firearms to defend themselves and their families.
Herron has long been a member of Ducks Unlimited and the Tennessee Outdoor Writers Association. He has been a hunter since he was 10 years old.
Sportsmen for Herron co-chairs Jim Perry, Steve McCadams, Mike Hayes, Rob Somerville and Garry Mason applauded the endorsement, saying Herron was the only choice for Tennessee hunters and shooters.
“Roy has been a hunter since he was a boy, and he’s passed his love of hunting on to his own sons,” said McCadams, a well-known hunting and fishing guide in Henry County. “As a sportsman, he has been a staunch supporter of our Second Amendment rights. That is why I am happy to help lead on his campaign. Roy has always fought to ensure our hunting and fishing rights. The NRA was right to give Roy its endorsement, because you can’t find a candidate more supportive of sportsmen.”
Small-town attorney and Christian author Roy Herron is running for Congress to bring jobs to Tennessee and fiscal responsibility to Washington. As a part-time citizen legislator, Herron has fought predatory lenders, passed laws that are tough on criminals and wrote and passed the Crime Victims’ Bill of Rights. Herron has written three books including God and Politics: How Can a Christian Be in Politics? He and his wife of 23 years, Nancy, live in Dresden and have three sons.
